Birmingham, Ala. (WIAT) — With the new year comes a whole new set of goal setting. Many folks have geared their new year’s resolutions toward health and fitness.

In this week’s Living Well with Michelle, Michelle stopped by Gauntlet fitness in Homewood talk to owner Paul Shunnarah about the key to a successful workout regimen.

“You wouldn’t cancel that date night you had with your friends, right. So don’t cancel your gym,” said Shunnarah. “Work your schedule around your fitness, versus working your fitness around your schedule.”

Prioritizing workouts that you actually enjoy will help maintain your commitment.

“That’s the number one key to success. If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, right, you’re never gonna stay with it.”

For some, group-based fitness classes motivate members. Others take a more individual approach. Fit Five Meals sales leader Shirlina Padilla looks forward to her daily morning runs.

“Just because that’s my time each morning,” said Padilla. “No matter how crazy my day is.”

But Padilla did not always look forward to working out.

WATCH the video to see Padilla’s physical transformation from December 2015 to the present. Today, she lives an active, healthy lifestyle. She wouldn’t want it any other way.

“It’s just – it’s changed my entire life around,” said Padilla.
