FT. POLK, La. (KALB) – Army fitness standards are changing in the fall of 2020. On Wednesday morning, Fort Polk soldiers got a firsthand look at what’s to come.
The current Army Physical Fitness Test has been around since 1980, but for years, the army has studied ways to improve it.
The old PT test will be replaced by the Army Combat Fitness Test, or ACFT. The program is gender-neutral and age-neutral.
To help with the transition, The Army Combat Fitness Mobile Team will be visiting installations across the country to bring soldiers up to speed.
Fort Polk soldiers were graded on their performance of six different events designed to better prepare troops for the next generation of Army warfare.
Every soldier will have a chance to practice taking the test in October of 2019 before it officially becomes the standard.
