Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled the defender out of the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League last-16 clash with Bayern Munich later this month.
Gomez, who suffered the injury against Burnley on December 5, faces at least another three weeks out.
The Reds had hoped Gomez would be back within six weeks but could now need minor surgery.
The England international has been seeing a specialist on the injury who he will see again before a decision is made.
“There were different moments we thought we could do this or that”
When asked about needing a procedure, Klopp said: “I don’t know. We will see. It is possible, probably.
“He needs more time. We will see exactly how we do it.
