MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) — Individuals and organizations from around the state were recognized for their efforts in promoting fitness in Kansas.
The Governor’s Council on Fitness presented the 2019 Kansas Health Champion awards in Manhattan on Thursday.
The City of Emporia received the Organizational Honorable Mention Award. They have adopted several policies and host several events which promote healthier lifestyles.
“The reason people move to your community is not because of wages, it’s because of quality of life,” Emporia City Commissioner and Vice Mayor Danny Griefer said.
Griefer says a healthy lifestyle can help bring people to the city, too.
“Having a healthy community that moves around is a part of making our community more healthy and improving the quality of life in Emporia,” Griefer said. “We think that’s important to get workforce to our community and people to live there and stay there.”
