ELM GROVE, W.Va (WTRF) – Stop past the Elm Grove YMCA and you’ll see, the New Year’s Resolution Rush is on.
However, the Journal of Clinical Psychology did research years ago suggesting only 46 percent will actually maintain their new years resolutions come June. But what makes people go ghost on their fitness routine?
“The biggest one I hear is, there’s just not enough time,” said James Youngblood, Wellness Director, Wheeling YMCA.
He’s been involved with fitness since the age of 12. He’s competed for seven years and went pro in 2018. He’s seen the dropping point for fitness resolutions and has some advice. In his book, consistency is the major key.
“When you’re coming in, you’re gonna want to make sure that you’re coming in regularly. I know people have different work schedules and stuff but try and work around that. Make sure that you’re mapping yourself an hour a day to be able to get into the gym,” said Youngblood.
Youngblood says, be consistent not only with exercise but nutrition as well. He says the idea that fasting makes you loose weight is a myth. Like a car with no gas, it slows down your metabolism and ultimately results in weight gain.
You should also set realistic goals.
“Chances are… You’re gonna loose about a pound a week to a half pound a week. You have to set short term goals along with your long term big goal,” said Youngblood.
They wanna see you reach those goals. So, the Wheeling YMCA is offering some New Year’s Deals.
$20 off any new three month membership plus an extra two months. Or, $75 off a yearly membership plus and one extra month.
Those deals expire January 31. The “Y” also offers a free two hour daycare service but you must be a member.
